It would be more fitting to call this the ARROGANCE OF THE YEAR. Here's a man who has made lying and deception into a kind of political art-form cavalierly dismissing the opinions of the entire world (and in public no less). Peres' outburst was made primarily in regard to the U.N. report accusing Israel of deliberately massacring Lebanese civilians.

"BEN-GURION'S SAYING: 'IT IS NOT IMPORTANT WHAT THE GOYIM (ED - NON-JEWS) SAY, IT'S IMPORTANT WHAT THE JEWS DO' HAS PROVED ITSELF HERE IN ALL ITS SHARPNESS," PERES SAID, REFERRING TO THE FIRST PRIME MINISTER OF ISRAEL, DAVID BEN-GURION." Shimon Peres Prime Minister of Israel

Actually it was from his mentor, Ben-Gurion, that Peres learned that saying one thing while doing another can be the most effective means to accomplish something -- if, that is, one doesn't care what anyone else thinks in the end. It was in fact Ben-Gurion when head of the Jewish Agency who very publicly and very repeatedly kept assuring the Palestinian Arabs, throughout the 1930s and early 1940s, that the Jewish immigrants had no intention of establishing a "Jewish State" and dispossessing them. Ben-Gurion knew all along, of course, that this was precisely their intention; but he also knew it was one they could accomplish only after they had managed to bring enough Jews to Palestine to push the Arabs out.

Like his mentor, Peres knows the immense value of aggressive public relations and that the big lie, repeated over and over again, has considerable power. He has just had the audacity to tell the world that not only did the Israelis not attack the U.N. Base at Qana deliberately -- all the evidence notwithstanding -- but that they had absolutely no idea there were civilians taking refuge in the camp; not to mention, of course, that Israel never attacks civilians! It is the U.N. and Hizbollah who are at fault according to Peres, whose country killed more than ten thousand civilians in the 1982 invasion and has occupied parts of Lebanon ever since. Indeed, Ben-Gurion would be proud. Others however -- Jews and non-Jews alike -- are appalled, ashamed and outraged.
